A classic red lip is a make-up staple, a red lip suits everyone. But finding a red lipstick that is the correct shade, the correct texture, cruelty free and contains no animal derived ingredients is a little harder.
A non-drying formula is paramount, as a dry red lip isn’t cute. A homemade sugar scrub will leave your lips full and free of loose skin prior to the red lipstick application. A sugar scrub is the easiest environmentally friendly exfoliator, as it contains only cane sugar and coconut oil. A sugar scrub is also fantastic if you have sensitive, eczema prone skin like Moi, as it doesn’t contain any irritants.
I digress, many lipsticks contain beeswax and/or carmine.
Why do Vegan’s not use Beeswax? Vegans do not use any animal-derived ingredient or products produced by animals.
What is Carmine? Carmine is a pigment of bright red colour. The pigment is produced from scale insects. The insects are boiled in ammonia or sodium carbonate.
